Privacy Policy

Treklist Travel Planner ("Treklist", "we", "us") is a travel guide and planning app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using Treklist you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Account information. When you create an account we store your email address and the display name you choose. We use Firebase Authentication, so your password is managed by Google's infrastructure and never stored in plain text by Treklist. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email, and profile photo with Treklist; you can revoke access anytime in your Google account settings.
- Profile and travel data. Saved destinations, trips, check-ins, achievements, rank progress, and country collection are linked to your account and stored in Cloud Firestore.
- Photos and reviews you submit. Place photos and reviews you upload are stored in Firebase Storage and Firestore. Photos remain pending until reviewed by an admin before they appear publicly.
- Social and group data. Group memberships, trip collaborations, messages, and friend connections you create are stored in Firestore and visible to the other participants in those groups or trips.
- Location (optional). If you enable location features, your approximate location is used only on-device to show nearby destinations. We do not continuously track or store your precise location.
- Local storage. Treklist stores preferences, saved items, and cached guide data in your browser's local storage so the app works offline. This data stays on your device unless you sign in and it syncs to your account.
- Payment and billing information. If you subscribe to Treklist Pro, payment processing is handled by Stripe, our payment provider. Stripe collects and processes your billing details (name, email, payment method, and billing address). Treklist does not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details — those are tokenized and held securely by Stripe. We store only your subscription status (active/inactive, plan type, and renewal date) in Firestore to determine which features you can access.
How We Use Information
- To provide and personalize your travel guide, trips, and social features.
- To calculate ranks, achievements, and gamification progress.
- To show relevant tours, activities, and accommodation links from our affiliate partners (Viator, Expedia).
- To moderate user-submitted photos and reviews before they are published.
- To communicate with you about your account or important service changes.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Third-Party Services
Treklist relies on the following providers, each governed by their own privacy policies:

- Stripe — payment processing for Treklist Pro subscriptions. Stripe handles your payment method and billing details. Stripe Privacy
- Geoapify — places and location data. Geoapify Privacy

Data Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us — we will remove your profile, trips, photos, reviews, and group memberships within 30 days.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Export your data (saved trips, check-ins, achievements).
- Opt out of marketing or promotional communications.
To exercise any of these rights, email treklisttravel@gmail.com.
Children's Privacy
Treklist is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has registered an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
Cookies and Tracking
Treklist does not use third-party advertising cookies. We use browser local storage and a service worker for offline functionality and caching. Firebase may use essential cookies for authentication.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used and to improve features. Analytics collects anonymized usage data such as screen views, search queries, destination views, and trip creation events. We do not use analytics for personalized advertising. You can limit data collection by using your browser's "Do Not Track" setting or by blocking third-party scripts.
Error Reporting. When the app encounters an unexpected error, it automatically sends an error report to our database including the error message, stack trace, page URL, browser type, and (if signed in) your user ID. This helps us diagnose and fix bugs. Error reports are limited to 50 per session to avoid excessive data transmission. No personal data beyond your user ID is included in error reports.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
